Keywords:

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the current status of women’s health behaviors and identify the factors that influence them.
Design and methods: The population of this cross-sectional and descriptive study consisted of 9,419 women aged 15-49 enrolled at a family health center in a province in eastern Turkey. The sample size was determined to be 384 women using a formula for cases with a known population. Simple random sampling was employed to select the participants. Data collection was carried out through face-to-face interviews using a socio-demographic characteristics questionnaire and the Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale II. The data were analyzed using t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Welch ANOVA, Bonferroni correction, and correlation tests.
Results: In the study, the mean score for women’s healthy lifestyle behaviors was found to be 131.97±19.65. Several sociodemographic and health-related factors were associated with women’s health-promoting behaviors, including marital status, monthly income, employment and education status, chronic disease status, perceived general health, and the number of dependents in the family. These factors were determined to play a significant role in shaping women’s health behaviors.
Conclusion: The study demonstrated that women’s health behaviors are at a moderate level but still require improvement. The results offer valuable evidence for enhancing women’s health behaviors. Based on these results, it can be concluded that interventions aimed at improving women’s health behaviors should be tailored to address the specific factors influencing these behaviors, such as marital status, income, education, employment, general health perception, and the presence of chronic diseases.
