Pediatrics & Nursology operates a continuous publication model. Authors should understand what this means for the handling of their work.

The journal publishes two issues per volume each year. An issue is opened at the start of its period and articles are added to it as they become ready. An article is published as soon as it has completed peer review, copy-editing and author proofing. It is not held back until the issue is closed.

There is therefore no queue and no waiting list. An article accepted early in an issue period and an article accepted shortly before the issue closes are treated identically: each appears on the website within days of final approval and is added to whichever issue is open at that time.

Every article is published as the final version of record. On publication it receives its volume, issue and page numbers, is deposited with the journal's archiving services, and becomes immediately citable. There is no intermediate stage, no "in press" listing and no later republication in a different form.

For authors this removes the principal source of delay in academic publishing. The time from submission to publication depends on the review and revision of the manuscript itself, not on the position of the journal in its publication calendar. The journal's current average is two to three months from submission to publication, with an initial editorial decision within ten days.

Readers can follow new content as it appears through the journal's table of contents for the open issue, which is updated with each publication.
